Ludwig B/O Black Beauty

There's a 6.5x14 Black Beauty for sale locally, tagged at $450. It is in pretty good shape, just some light surface scratches. But, the pointed corner B/O badge has a scribed in number. Just how much does this devalue the drum? BTW, the drum sounds great.

Engraved? If so, that's a steal... Unengraved? $450 is all the money.

I'm not quite understanding your reply. There are 3 numbers engraved on the badge. Are you saying this is a good price? An engraved badge is no big deal I take it? Thanks.

No, he meant the shell...some black beauties have a beautifully engraved shell with floral patterns. These are much more valuable than just a plain black shell.

Gotcha. I know about the engraved shells and their worth. The only thing engraved is a number on the badge. So what about the badge and it not being a stamped number?

It was likely done by the owner, himself. Some early Ludwig B/O badges were unnumbered and I suppose a few people figured it to be an opportunity to make their own identification number.

I have a b/o badge acro that has no serial number. It just has a scratched in number. I was thinking this drum could be a very late 1969 drum as I have heard that the b/o badge first appeared in Oct. 1969. I have heard of other people with a no serial number and a hand engraved number instead. Anythings possible with Ludwig!

I have an Acro with the B/O badge and no serial number. There is nothing engraved or otherwise on the badge. 1969-about 1971 fits right in there.

Anyone else on the subject, I'm open.

The 6.5's have been going for some crazy prices on e-bay lately.

$450 sounds good compared to what I 've seen,
