Ludwig Black and White Badge

I got these off of craigslist for almost nothing. Sizes 13/16/22. Im curious if they are Rockers or what. The shells look like 3 ply without rings. The spur brackets look like rockers, but the floor tom and ride tom both have mini classic lugs, bd has large classic lugs, there are no serial numbers. Granitone interiors.

Im wondering if these are worth fooling with. I have a friend that had a mod orange kit back in the day and he wants another one. I was thinking about restoring these with the mod orange wrap like I did the 79 standard with citrus mod wrap. Step by step guide to turning standards into classics here>>>http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=17593

Im still debating on this. I actually cleaned the garage yesterday so I can work on these. The lugs, tom brackets, ft legs, are worth more than twice what I gave for the drums, not to mention the cheap throne, snare stand and kick pedal and tama snare shell that came with it.

From poppy79424

The way I read it, they are standards. I had another standard kit. it had rocker lugs and re rings and was 1979 3 ply

The standard II,from the early 80's,have B/O badges.Your B/W badge Rockers ,are made in Monroe NC.They should be 4 ply toms and 6 ply bass drums, maple poplar without rerings. They used both classic and rocker/standard lugs

The Standards from the late 60's early 70's ,did use that same rocker lug,but were 3 ply maple poplar, the same shell as classics and club dates.

Bought a white set of these S2s, sold a bunch of the stuff it came with and after cleaning and what not , ended up almost even. They don't sound amazing but they also don't sound terrible. Definitely worth fixing up if you ask me.

Poppy,

I am sure they are worth fixing up and will make a great project. Whether it is worth the cost of the wrap is up to you.

I bought a white set configured like yours from GC for $100. I think the staff saw the B/W badge and thought they were made overseas, but the badges do say USA.

They have the same lugs, bass drum spurs/mounts and interior shell paint as your kit. The original heads were still good, but I replaced the batters with Ambassadors and kept the Rockers resonant heads. I completely disassembled all the drums, polished the lugs, Novus the wrap and reassembled. The toms are 4 ply and the bass is 6 ply. Aside from a couple very minor scratches, these drums look almost brand new.

I vote clean them up and re-wrap. Try to go for minimal expense in case you don't like the sound and decide to sell. They really are not bad drums. They were still made in the USA by the same assembly line and processes as the B/O drums. The shells were "visually" a lower grade than the B/O badged drums, so they painted the interior. The Rockers usually came with the Standard style lugs, so think of having Classic style lugs as an upgrade. :)

I just read your Standards into Classics thread and without a doubt, I say go for the Mod Orange re-wrap. You also need to document it along the way. That was an awesome thread.

Ya man, re-do them. Here is a pic of my b/w badge Rockers for inspiration. I have half the drums at my buddies house where we practice. Every one loves them and they sound very good. You could buy maple veneer with psa backing and wrap them for about 100 bucks. Then coat with some varnish.
