Ludwig BDP preserial KB kit

Loading...

Here are are some pics of the preserial KB Ludwig BDP drum kit I found at a local antique mall for which I paid $270. I put the kit in lay away and have now got it home and I am now ready to post some photos. I have located a later 1966 BDP floor tom that I will use untill I find a preserial KB one. I got all that you see in the photos plus some including a nice highhat stand and some other stuff and it is really not in bad shape...needs cleaned up and polished mostly. The preserial KB snare is nice and is really heavy and has no pits on the shell and I believe it to be COB. Most of the hardware has minimal pitting and not a lot of rust and all the wrap seams are nice and tight. The kicker hoops need repainted and the kit really needs a good cleaning and polishing. I am getting ready to remove all the heads and hardware to do the resoration project. Keep eyes out for me please for the BDP preserial KB 16 floor tom! I just pulled the kicker heads and it is stamped Sept 27, 1961. I think I got the set for a good price. I welcome any comments and suggestions as well.

Considering that the hardware that came with your kit would of cost you what the entire kit did, you've done very very well! I have a 1962 Ludwig Black diamond pearl kit myself it's in the gallery! hey can you take a pic of just the snare drum and show the snare beds or show the stariner and butt end! thanks, I want to see if you have a cob snare drum?

Here are some pics of the Preserial KB snare. Also did the magnet test and it did not stick at, and it has the small button adjustment knob..and it has to weigh about 9 pounds as well.

thanks but that's not what I need to see, when you get a chance no hurrry take the bottom head and remove the snare wires and photograph the bottom beariing edge and at the bottom of the strainer and butt end the side of the drum shell where they are both mounted, the drum shell would be crimped if it's brass!

Thank you that's exactly what I needed that is most definitely crimped, you very well may have a COB, but it could be aluminum, your drum is at the date or time period where this was taking place both brass and the ludalloy shells are crimped! will a magnet stick to the rims?, meaning either they are brass or steel, you won't be able to use this as a test for the shell though!

I did try the magnet test on the shell and rims and it did not stick. Also, it is really heavy and I will try to find a way to weigh it. It has no pits on the shell or on the rims at all. I supose, I could try the scrape test as a last resort..What do you think?
