Ludwig Bass Hoop Inserts

Loading...

I just came into possession of a late 60's standard kit in Orange(?) sparkle. It has one of the original wooden bass drum hoops minus the insert and the other is non-original.

What is the best method to get some matching wrap and/or original hoop to get this back to original condition.

I believe this to be "Gold Mist" standard wrap, circa 1969. Can anyone confirm or deny?

It is VERY orange and doesn't appear to have faded to that color, as the wrap is very consistent in all locations, including under hoops and lugs.

Where would I be able to find some of this wrap, or the original hoops?

Thanks

Looks alot like gold sparkle, I'm not that familiar with Ludwig standard colors. You can get gold sparkle inlays for that hoop from Jamminsam.com. The Drum Foundry sell replacement hoops with the inlay slot cut and the front edge rounded for about $45.

Gold Mist is probably right.

See: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/ludwig_set_standard.html#

IF I remember correctly, it did seem to be more of an orange than a gold, but it's been a LONG time since I've seen it. Also, the sparkle pattern was a lot smaller than the traditional sparkles on their classic line. That's why they called it "mist."

Drum Supply House in Nashville does custom color matching, but it takes a long time, it's expensive, and you'd have to order at least one full sheet...

So... Cam's suggestions might be the way to go.

I'm hoping to find someone who has some of the original. Someone posted on here a while back that they had hoops with the gold mist inlay, but my attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful.

Thanks!
