Ludwig Bass Drum Pedal..Very old

Loading...

Would this Pedal maybe date to around the 19 teens 1920s maybe? What type of beater head might it have had...Lambs wool, wood maybe?

I picked it up today at the local Gun Show of all places..In case you cannot see it well. The patent date is 5 25 1909

Patent Pending..... So in light of those two things..I am thinking it is likely very early..It is very cool looking for sure..

Pic Thanks

Cool pedal. Yeah, very early 1900's design...someone will tell you more details about it I'm sure, but I believe it would have likely had a big, fluffy wool beater.

Looking at some of the old catalogs, they’ve shown them with kits up to 1923 or so.

It had a felt beater with no name on the medallion. Why does it have a gold tint to it? What did you pay for it?

Some of the Gold Tint is likely just the old patina and some light oil I put on it.. And my camera skills,LOL

I probably paid a little more than I should have..25.00, but he did want 30.00...So Wes made me feel like I got a good deal at 25.00..I know him pretty well from the Shows..So he usually treats me pretty good..Had a old guy come up to me on the way out the door..He said he was just going back to buy it..

Anyway I did put a Beater I have here on it..Put it on my little Ludwig Club Date..I kinda like it. Had to try it out..I may not even keep it around..But it is cool just to look at though..

May find a beater for it on Ebay or Reverb when I find for sure what the type I need is...If as you say..No Logo..That might be easier finding one without a Ludwig logo..And probably cheaper too....Thanks

Good price. I wrote a book about Ludwig pedals. Just took a shot of that page. Good luck in your hunt! SAZ

PS: The scribbles are my notes for the upcoming edition!

Great

I guess when they say that guy wrote the book on something..It is really true about you.

So by your picture..It appears mine is missing an additional part..What is that little gadget with the ball on the end in the photo? Whats its purpose? Please do not tell me I need to buy the book to find out,LOL Thanks

Buy the book and find out!

It’s a cymbal striker. Back in the day, a cymbal attached to the bass drum. It hit the cymbal at the same time the beater hit the bass drum head.

Here are some detailed photos and the catalog page for that pedal. (The beater is not original, but the catalog photo does show the beater)

Thanks to you both..It never crossed my mind the extra ball was for a little cymbal..But it sure makes sense now that I know that..I appreciate the input..
