Ludwig and Ludwig snare 1920's

Loading...

hey I wasn't for sure where to post this, but I bought this snare a few years back. I have been trying to figure out what model it was and its value. I would like to sell it eventually but, I would like to know a little more about.

I have looked on line and I cant find another one like it, I have found some that are very similar but with Nickel Hoops. the hoops on my snare looks like it was originally manufactured that way.

if you guys have any ideas or any input could you please help me out.

what model?

what year?

nothing? does anyone know anything about this snare.

Be patient. Some experts will chime when they see this. You could have posted this one in the Vintage Drums section. Mike Currotto will know everything there is to know about this snare. Check out his recent post regarding a 1929 L&L snare in the Vintage Drums section.

Two things come to mind.

The Ludwig all Metal separate tension which is steel, and in the teens has six lugs with that engraving on the hoops.

The other, Which I think it looks like is the Ludwig All Metal 16 gage Brass Orchestra Model from the tens and twenties with six lugs and that engraving on the hoops.

I can`t weigh it, so What`s it weigh ? The cat pics are below.

When the Skipper moves this to the top forum, there are many who either have it or know more than I can share.

its NOB, and it looks like it is two pieces the top and bottom of the snare are some how connected, I think. I don't know the weight.

Looks to me to be a Universal model. As far as the hoops being black, based on the logo being what appears to be nickel, the hoops were probably nickel as well. That is often the first to come off, so they may have been replated.

As far as a value, it would be tough to say, but based on what I see, perhaps in the $300-350 range.

Drum Kits
1965 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Blue
1966 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Black
1969 Ludwig BB Blue Oyster Keystone Clubdate
1971 Ludwig BB Black Oyster

thanks schmegeggie, I have googled it and all the pictures I found had nickel hoops but they were not painted. these hoops look like they were made like that (painted) I am pretty sure it would have been hard to paint the top hoop in a perfect oval, over the Ludwig & Ludwig. I am not sure how they did it, but I think it looks cool.
