I bought a 1920's (guessing) 6.5x15 all metal Ludwig snare drum. It had a small throw on it, but was also drilled for the spacing of a P-85. I'd like to put on what would've been original to it. What would it have been? It's gotta be one of these, from what I can tell.
Ludwig All Metal (Band Model)
if the hole pattern is a little smaller than the p85 holes, its most likely a p338 strainer.

Thanks. Sorry for the confusion...
Do you mean like the one pictured here? I think the only difference between this and my drum is mine is a 10 lug.
Is the P-338 prone to failure? This may have been what was on the drum when I bought it, but it kept slipping, so I started using a P-85 with the extra hole. Don't like that throw either. Uhg.
I realize photos of my drum would help. I won't be in the studio for a couple days.

beautiful drum. ive got the same in a 6 lug. i also have a 5x14 8 lugger that had a broken p338 on it. i made an adapter plate and installed a p86. you might like those. it has the same pattern as the p85. much better strainer though i think. the p83 also fits the p85 holes. but they can get pricey.
here is a pic of mine with the p86...

Cool. Thanks.
Here is my drum. I was always under the impression that the middle hole was the extra as it's rather sloppy and bent a bit. But you think it's that bottom hole closer to the bed that's extra?
that bottom hole would be the added one i think.

Thanks Mike.
Gonna pick up a P-86 from Maxwell tomorrow!
