Have this drum apart. there was only one old broken down peice of sponge left in one lug behind the spring. opinions on putting the lugs back together. Felt?; cotton (make up remover) pads?; nothing? Any experience appreciated.

you can just go without it, or buy a pad and cut to size

You can get a sheet of felt at the hobby store for way cheap... you would get hundreds out of one sheet
