Your not going to go wrong with that keystone badge one. I would just stay away from those orange looking powder coated ones. I forget the name folks use for them. I have a couple of the early 70's B/O smooth gray ones that sound great.

The one shown in the pic is one of the most popular out there 70's badge.

one of the best snares out there if you are on a limited budget. Almost every one i know has one on hand.

A 100.00 bucks will get u a 5 x 14 Anyday of the week.

The least expensive Acrolite that is well maintained with good heads and proper tensioning for the occasion will sound just as good as the most expensive "vintage" or "prototype" Acrolite. I have a 5x14 Blackro with the white and black badge. I bought it only because it was cheap. I was at a store when the store's owner paid someone $35 for the drum that had sat unplayed after her child dropped out of school band. I gave the store owner $50 for it. It sounds great. I like the Acrolite much more than the Chrome over Brass Rogers Powertone that I own.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I've got a keystone, a B/O and a B/W badge acrolites. They all are easy to tune and sound awesome. You can't go wrong with any of them.

As everyone else said all Acros sound great. I'd pick one that you think will look the best with your kit since they all sound pretty much the same. The earliest ones had thinner hoops I believe which may change the tone slightly. I don't like the looks of the powder coated grey ones but of the three I had (a 68', 76', and an 82') that one was the best sounding.

Second to that... Easiest drum that I have ever tuned.

1 to all my fellows above!!

As you may see down bellow, I´m a huge fan of all kind of Acros.

You will never go wrong with one of these, any bagde or any color/finish you decide.....

Btw, the "early prototypes" are usualy called "orange peel" aluminum finish, but they worth about 400 and they are the most sought after (besides the ten lugs of course!!)

Must be something about an Acrolite. Just look at 'sold' listing's on E**Y and you'll see some are fetching a higher price than Supraphonic's.

I noticed that new 6.5x14 Blackrolites are only $299 at Explorers.

Plus they have the black and white badge and not the blue and olive.
