Ludwig 70's snare question

Loading...

I know this is not a rare drum; but there isn't a picture on vintagesnaredrums/ludwig and I don't see them offered for sale all the time.

What should this model be called? The serial number is: 2064089

Thanks for your time; it's much appreciated.

Thanks very much for the reply LVDC!

Eighties it is then. It's a killer drum I would not part with it. Cheers, PK

You're welcome troutstudio! I hear ya on the "killer" part, while I don't own one myself I have reconditioned two for others, both 5-incher's, and thought they were one of the best sounding Snares I've ever heard. I can only imagine what their, 6.5," BIG brother, or sister, depending on how you want to look at it, sounds............

I played a slightly newer version of that snare throughout college and I agree it is the best sounding snare I've ever played. Amazing drum!

I'm not so sure about those die cast hoops on the catalog drum though. I've heard the Ludalloy snares don't take too kindly to die cast hoops, so I wonder how the bronze shelled ones would sound.

I've had a 6.5 #552 ( "The Tank" ) for many years and agree

it is killer.

We bagged a stack from the NAMM show that were

the first off the line from NC. It turned out that they

were drilled for SS but shipped with P-85 throws.

The new oversize badges spun 'round like the propellers

@ a used car dealer and some had an almost pink hue

to them.

I later removed all semblance ( badge and decal )

of Ludwig from mine out of respect for the old man.

Hence the nickname.

The late 80's and early 90's were rough for Ludwig...

Die cast hoops do tend to kill some of the twang,

but IMHO will on any drum.
