Ludwig '66 13/16/20 vs. 12/14/20

Hi guys -

I'm hoping to get some input on whether a trade for a '66 Ludwig silver sparkle 13/16/20 is =, < or > a early '70s Ludwig WMP 12/14/20. I know that if the latter were a 60's kit it would obviously be valued higher than the 13/16/20. Is this the case w/ a 70's bop kit? Different camps, it's true, dig the 70's lacquered interiors over the whites.

I think the 70's kit is pretty rare. You really don't see many 20,12,14 70's sets and wmp is a classy color.

A toss-up, but I'd take the 70's 12-14-20 kit.

I'm on board with hardbopman...13" and 16" toms with a 20" bass drum doesn't look right to me, either...but it's almost 1/2 dozen of one, 6 of another. I would venture to say that these 2 kits are pretty close to equal in value...you have Keystone Luddy's in weird sizes or b/o badges in matching sizes. I say if you like the 70's kit and it sounds good to you, then do it.

Both classic finishes.

I personally like the 13, 16, 20 and have never had any questions about it's appearance.

What type of music do you intend to play? I think that's the bigger question.

What are the chances of adding a matching 16 to the 12, 14, 20 for more low end?

I'd say go for the 70's kit if condition is comparable.

Thank you all very much for taking the time to offer thoughts!

I'm like many on the forum who buys just because, sells only to buy again. The 60's sparkle kit I cleaned up and have been planning on selling anyway {already have a 60's BDP, Rogers blue onyx}. The WMP 70's just came up, thinking a trade + cash {I value it at $1500 +/-} might be in order. Right now, I wish I never introduced the idea of a trade since I'd only end up selling the WMP kit in the long run since my BDP is 12/14/20 & I need another like a ....

12, 14, 20 gets my vote

I know what you mean...I have entirely too many drums, but they are all so great and getting harder to find...so I end up keeping a bunch of stuff. The solution for me is a house with a basement. Now I have them in my bonus room above the garage, which is also where I practice. Crowded room! I'm sure non drummers think it's ridiculous, but who cares...I think it's awesome!
