Ludwig 6.5 x 14 Hammered Bronze strainer\butt Last viewed: 2 days ago

I just purchased what I was told is an '80s Ludwig 6.5 x 14 Hammered Bronze snare. She sounds wonderful and I'm enjoying it very much.

However, the P-85 strainer and butt (don't remember the part #) are both screw adjusted and that's the only aspect of Ludwig snares I have not liked.

Therefore, I'd like to replace the the strainer and the butt with a P-86 and P-33 respectively. This would really improve the practicality of the drum since both have drum key adjusted screws.

I've been told the P-86 is a fit with the holes on the drum but wondering about the P-33.

Can someone let me know if I can use both parts?

If not maybe another solution that uses drum key adjustable screws.

Thanks in advance.

Mounting screw spacing for the P86 is the same as the P85 so it

bolts right up..

The P33 spacing however is different and would require drilling

the shell.

You can check at drumfactorydirect.com - they have mounting

spacing for all their butts as I recall, so you may find a cast

butt that will bolt up without drilling.

Have you considered replacing the OEM screws of the hold down bar

with allen head screws? Inexpensive hardware store item and

easy to tighten with an allen key.

Hope this helps.

This is how my early 1980s 6.5x14" Ludwig Hammered Bronze Supra came to me. No problem at all.

It's a fantastic drum, BTW. I love mine.

I personally would leave the P32 butt plate on the drum. That P33 is hideous.
