I have seen one other example of that snare drum in the WFL version. It was submitted to my site a long time ago and I even had it featured on the home page. I never really found out more about it. Here is a picture of it. This is probably the drum you are asking about just a newer version after WFL. I'm guessing if yours has that serial number then it is 60's maybe 66. The one below would be older.

Thanks Bonzoleum! I asked the person to send a picture of the badge and the shell so we can get proof of the drum as they state it is.

David: are you sure the serial # isn't 7 digits? There shouldn't be any factory brass or gold plated Supras with those numbers.. Could you post/email me some pics?

THe WFL drum pictured above is a Lacquered Super Ludwig which was offerd from about '58 to '62..

I have had numerous emails with this person before I even posted the thread. He does not have a digital camera. I suggested they purchase a disposable digital. They say the serial number is correct and the drum has a baseball bat muffler and the same strainer in the picture.

As always I suggest they send a pic for better evaluation. Unless the drum is some sort of anomoly or a different shell with the correct parts.

Without the pictures we can't go any further with this drum.

Thanks for your information, it helps to have you on the forum and I look forward to figuring out exactly what drum this is.

I will update the thread as soon as he figures out the pictures

The web visitor sent pictures of the drum, I had to clean them up. From what I see on that third picture is someone tried to engrave the shell and never finished.

It looks to be a brass plated aluminum shell judging by the silver showing in the engraving..It's hard to see from the pics if it indeed could be a Super Ludwig brass shell, but it looks to be a brass colored Ludaloy shell.

Of course the drum (posted) above it looks to be a genuine WFL/LUDWIG lacquered brass Super Ludwig for sure.
