Ludwig 1965/66 Super Classic Project Thread

I guess I will start a new thread and keep adding to it the questions that come up. So I got the muffler of, no issues. In fact the floor tom is in pieces getting cleaned. So here is a question. How have you gone about stopping rusting parts? I have from the inside of the drum rusting lug screws and washers, washers from the leg supports, and inside muffler parts. I have them soaking (not the muffler) in WD40 but that is not removing rust. Do I find new ones? I'm trying to keep this 100% original, because it's all here. Here are some pictures.

you can soak those metal parts overnight in a mixture of dawn detergent and water. you'll be amazed at what they will look like afterwards with just a rinse. it works!

After much work on rust removal here are the lug bolts and washers after cleaning. All the hardware is polished, almost ready to put it back together.

Nice job on the rust ;)

here's a tip for future rust removal:

Soak them overnight in Coca-Cola :)

believe me, it works magic!!

has something to do with the acid or something, but it works great!!!

I've been away, lot of cleaning done, pictures to come. I did find out that vinegar works wonders, better than any rust remover on the market hands down.
