I just purchased a mint condition 1959 Ludwig super classic three piece white marine pearl with three original cymbals (per the seller). The sizes are 14x22 bass drum, 9x13 rack tom and 5x14 matching wmp snare. I assume the floor tom was lost with time or never purchased. My question is the cymbals. I am not versed at all at vintage cymbals. I was hoping some of you vintage guys would have an idea of the cymbals based upon the pictures I attached. Thanks in advance you vintage drum gurus.

Ha! Nice Verminator!!! I actually drove across town to score this kit for myself and they were already getting it together for you! I am glad someone on the forum got it. I did get to look at it with my own two eyes and I can tell you it looked really nice from the couple of minutes I got to check it out. Trans badge on the kick and rack tom. Pre-serial on the Super Classic Snare. She is a beauty enjoy!

Wow. I was on the phone buying it and the guy told me that someone was there wanting to buy it. How awesome is that. It seems like it might be the Ray Bauduc swing outfit or just a super classic without a floor tom. How were the cymbals? I thought the drums were worth the asking price but for hi hats and two more cymbals? I'm feeling like I did well on this fathers day. I have virtually no cymbal buying experience so I am really a babe in the woods however I cannot imagine Zildian cymbals (per the seller) are cheap from this time frame.
Nice find! From what I can see, the cymbals look nice. I see some hammering on the ride and the bell looks a little flat on top, which is good sign of 50's usually. Any chance of any stamp pics from the cymbals. Enjoy that new kit!

Ha! Yep that was me!!! I did not get a really good look at the cymbals but they did look like really nice quality vintage cymbals. I would guess Zildjian A's but I am not sure. I thought I saw the cymbal arm for the bass drum with the set as well even though it is not pictured. That would be a bonus because they rake you for those on Ebay. Certainly a good deal. The snare and cymbals alone are probably worth what you payed depending on what they charged you for shipping. They said they had 13 e-mails over night starting at 3am for that kit and some folks making offer without even seeing the pics which I think is nuts.

I was fortunate that I sent an email early this morning when I woke up (my 11 year old kid waking me up for fathers day). When I went to do my morning office work (bathroom time) I perused the new arrivals at the store and stumbled across the kit and sent an email right away. There was no picture and I assumed that the kit would be beat up with non original stuff etc. The wife won't be happy, but I listed three vintage kits on local craigslist today to make room for this. I always buy cheap, play them and sell cheap as well as to not **** off the drum gods.

I just confirmed with the store that they are all Zildjian Avedis (A) cymbals. It looks like an 18 crash ride, 16 crash and 13 or 14 hi hats. Probably worth $2-300 all together? They are in great shape per the store and the ride is apparently very heavy for its size.
I would say $300.00 plus easy. The flat base stands and throne are probably worth close to $200.00 to $300.00 as well.
