LUDWIG 1938's STANDARD SNARE Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Hello, I'm sorry for my English, but I'm Italian! ;)

I've just bought a Ludwig 1938 Standard snare, with 8 Imperial lugs, 6,5x 14", Pearl shell.

I Think it's a Mahogany Solid Shell, it's dated august 1938.

I would just know if it's a pretty rare model, and what could be it's value!

I did not bought it for a collection, I'm a drummer and I think I will use it for concerts and studio sessions, because I NEVER heard a greater sound from other snares I have.

It's simply perfect!

thank you very much!

Please post pictures of the inside the shell especially the bearing edges to determine if it's a solid shell or a ply shell model?.

I don't have it here with me, But I can describe the inside, may it can help you:

The shell is made by only one ply of mahogany wood. on the rims there are two (one up and one down) reinforcement circles..

It's all clear?

Sorry that isn't of any help, just post a few pic when you get a chance to do so. 1938 is the transition period when they stopped making solid shells, so your drum could be one or the other.. the solid shell models sale in the $400.00 to 600.00 range and the plied models sale in the $300,00 to $450.00 range. your drum is the most common of the Ludwig Ludwig models but they are still rare drums.

I think it's a chromatic effect, the inside shell is all painted in white. There's a little difference of colour between the bearing edge and the mahogany shell but I Think it's because the two different types of wood!

Unfortunately on this site I cannot post the original images because they are too heavy, but if you give me your mail address I can send you the original ones where you can zoom and see the wood fibers!
