Ludwig 1928 Mahogany Snare Drum 14 x 5

Loading...

I am quite interested in this beautiful Ludwig Pioneer mahogany snare drum for sale circa. 1928 on Ebay.

I have only ever seen brass Pioneer's from that time and if they were wood I have only ever seen them with covering.

Do you think the covering as been removed? How original is this drum because it looks like a beauty.

Don't have my catalogs handy, but unlike the Pioneers of the 1960s, I'm guessing most of the Pioneers of the '20s and '30s were black or white duco, or possible "mahogany" like this one. I don't know if that finish is original or not, but most likely it didn't start out with a wrap.

It's a nice looking drum. I like the standards of that era with the heavier hoops with the flange, as opposed to the flat hoops that drum has.
