Ludwig 18" floor tom conversion for Jazz Kit

I converted my 16"x18" floor tom to a kick drum. I wanted the option of a small Champagne jazz kit and can use the 24" in other situations. It was actually pretty easy with the correct parts. I really did not want at this time to spend the money for hoops, T-rods, or claws, but chose instead to go the less expensive route that would work. I borrowed the folding spurs from another 60's era Bass drum, and I had a stainless steel riser from my Sonor Safari kit that I attached a LP small claw, and the claw fit the batter rim perfectly, and the height was fine too. I just put a felt strip on the clear ambassador batter side and two small strips on the coated ambassador reso side and it sounds fine. I had to use my 9"x13" Tom with the 14"x14" because I have two with my kit. I would actually be open to a trade for a 8"x12" for one of my 13's. I have been playing on it and kicking it pretty hard and it doesn't move. I can use the top leg mount for a splash cymbal so there are no unused mounts showing.

Nice~! Can you show how the pedal attaches please? I have a 20" floor tom I may want to try the same with someday. It's takes up a lot of real estate as a floor tom!! LoLoLoLo

This is the riser from my Sonor kit. The 16" Sonor kick has a mount underneath the batter side that the riser slides in, but with that LP claw I can attach it to the Sonor riser and it holds up the batter rim fine.

You can also get a strong tie right angle bracket, a 3/8"x1.5" bolt, 3/8" nut, a couple of 3/8" flat washers, a LP claw, and it will work too. I can't find the pic of the bracket one but will post it when I do. I actually bought the parts and it would have worked great but realized I had that Sonor riser. But that bolt will come out of that right angle bracket and the claw will fit right on it. You might have to drill a hole in the bracket. Mine had one there already. There are lots of ways to do it but I don't like those wooden cradles. If you already have spurs the bracket is the less obtrusive way to go I think. It looks just like the Trick Riser.

Lov it..

Maybe try a Dagmar flrtom converter kit...

Dont need spurs & comes with ..a lip plate to attach the pedal...

And the convertor raises the flrtom off the ground by @4"...so the beater strikes the center of the skin...(wrks on 16"s as well)...

:-) I love yr set & sizes....!
