Good decision. You have the Rogers. Can't get better than that. Still, it's nice to have a sports car even if you own a Caddy. Car Driving2

Maybe you could meet them half way.

This same circumstance happened to me. Someone told him what their worth after he committed to sell them to you. That person was not a buyer, merely some idiot giving him a false sense. Now, he has no buyer and has come back to you.

My situation was a early 70’s Rogers 5 piece and the snare was a mid 70’s 6.5 Supra. His add initially stated $500. Then it doubled! After about a month I contacted him again and asked to see them. We met, and he was a nice guy. Some idiot who knew vintage drums had told him what they’re worth, so to speak. I told him; yeah! Spend 25 hours cleaning them, $250 on new heads, pack and ship them to wherever, and yes, the right buyer will eventually come along and give you that! He told me his stories about them(which led back to the 70’s and even not just meeting John Bonham, but JB talked to him and complimented him on how good they sounded!). So, I left with them and down $600. He and I were both happy!

So, I would take the soft approach if you want them. Never know who is on the other end!

Tell him your looking at another kit for that price

And say you’ll do the nickel because he changed his mind so much but you need the speed king

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The Speed King was off the table, he told me he wouldn't back out. About 30 minutes later he says someone wants to come look at the kit. I said, so you're backing out? He says, sorry, I'll let you know if he buys them. What's funny about this is that he's a friend of mine that lives near Austin, not a good friend, but we've made a few deals.
