Ludwg External Snare Drum Mufflers?

Loading...

Hi, guys!

I'm trying to get a fifties WFL wooden marcher to sound a bit "crisper". I'm not a huge fan of moongel or o rings, but I'd definitely like to take a bit of buzz out. Did Ludwig ever make external snare mufflers? If not, what would you guys recommend? Thanks very much.

I have never seen any Ludwig brand external snare drum mufflers but have been wrong lots of times and lately. I have seen folks muffle mylar head (as opposed to Kevlar) marching drums with small pieces of white felt bought at fabric stores or Wally World. They cut thin pieces in the shape of a crescent (think watermelon slice side view) and secure them under the batter hoop at the edge of the head. It has the same effect as Moon Gel. It may take several tries to get the size crescent for the sound you want but felt is cheap. The only problem you might have is that large mufflers may interfere with playing with brushes. Good luck!

Rogers made some mid 70's when they ceased putting mufflers in Big R Dynasonics... I still have a few which I use a lot. Tama or Pearl made them too.

Cheers

Thanks, John. I have all of those external dampers, but because of the wooden hoops, the only one that fits is the old Tama. It helps, but not much. I'll eventually figure this out (hopefully). In the meantime, it gives me something to do during these times. Thanks again, John. I really appreciate your input.

Sorry, John. My fault. I should have mentioned that the hoops were wood. Thanks for replying!
