just got this guy, one of the star family no dout, cow skin head, hav'nt seen a hoop with this profile?, drums a bit sad but suits my collecting genre. any idea where in the star spectrum this bloke fits?

Hi,
The hoop is also called 'S-type' or 'Stick-saver' hoop. Star fitted these one on their first snare drums: in the beginning of the 60s.
So your drum comes from the starting period of Star.
