Hey guys!
Just thought I'd share my latest catch with you all. I wanted to get my hands on one of these for quite some time, but they don't show up often are are valued higher than other Amati drums here. I was fast enough to snag this one for cheap, though.
1960s red sparkle 14x3.5" snare, known as piccolo, or "waffer" here (because it's so thin). It's in quite nice condition, few scratches on the hoops (some of which show that Amati in fact did put copper plating under their chrome at this time), some filth on the shell, nothing too bad. Some unoriginal, presumably Sonor, t-rods, and almost completely missing strainer mechanism, replaced by home-made one, even simpler than the original. It sort of works, though, and finding an original replacement shouldn't be too hard. It seems that someone deepened the snare beds, which is probably a good thing, considering the usual quality of Amati edges and beds.
Even with original non-mylar heads and a strip of foam stretched right across the ceneter of the batter side by previous owner, it sounds kinda good. Can't wait to put decent heads on it.
Gonna be one tasty, tasty waffer.
