Love selling vintage drums, hate packing to ship

Loading...

Is there a thread on here with packing tips? I have a mental block to packing drums. It's a hassle to me. There does not seem to be pre-made boxes in sizes ideal for 14, 16 and 18 and 20-22 inch sizes. If so-where do you get them? What do you guys who ship a lot use? I feel when I custom make a smaller-better fitting box, it takes forever and turns out an awkward looking mess. Yet to sit a drum in a larger box where it needs gads of extra filling so it doesn't slide around in the box isn't ideal either. Then the larger sized box also extends the dimensions which parcel services, especially the post office, like to use to stoke up the shipping costs. I live in southeast PA and shipped an Acrolite to southern California. It cost $40 and nearly 10 days to get there. Mister T

Easiest is to take them to a Pack and Ship place. More costly, but way less hassle. Advantage it something is damaged in shipping, they cannot say it was not packed correctly.

Me, I ALMOST enjoy the challenge of packing correctly. Plus I have a basement full of boxes and crap to pack with. But not everyone enjoys the "challenge".

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Do NOT go to a packing place..I have found....charge double/triple of what you can do it for..and..almost always......do a really bad job!

Local UPS office has charged over $500 to box and ship a 4 piece kit. An expensive hassle I'll never go through again.

The UPS Store is the place you don't want to go to. They charge a fortune. Not worth it.
