Today I will be receiving a pair of Paiste 15" Soundedge's I got from GC's used gear site for $95.00. I was shocked at the price and am still wondering what the catch is but I will find out as soon as they arrive.

What series of Sound Edges ?

They made them in all different series. 2002's...2000's....3000's.....505's ...even 404's I have seen....

Oh I forgot that part. They are 2002's. I actually got them yesterday and they are in very good condition. They are typical red label 15" Sound Edges. The serial numbers are 08035746 and 08035797. Are they a matched pair? Anyways my goal is to find lets say a Paiste crash on line for a good deal. I will purchase it with a credit. Once I recieve the cymbal I will determine which one I like better my current crash or the newly purchased crash. Once that is determined I will sell the one I don't like as much and pay the card off. I must use the card because I don't have cash to play with. I do like the current set up I have been using for the past 14 years which are mid 90's Avedis Zildjian 18" thin crash, 18" medium crash, 20" medium ride and 14" New Beats. I just don't want to go through life without giving Paiste a chance. Especially when a lot of the classic rock sound I love was recorded with them. I hope this is not the beginning of a cymbal addiction ha ha.

Might I suggest this site:

http://www.mycymbal.com/

You get a pretty good idea of how each cymbal sounds. They also have a used/vintage section for checking out some of the older sounds. Good site for getting your mind around each sound. Expand your horizons and look into the Twenty series. Also, check out some of the other stuff. Neato place.

You should check out the Paiste website (paiste.com). They have great sound clips of all series of Paiste cymbals. They also make it easy to compare cymbal sounds without having to click through multiple web pages at a time (and in the process forgetting what the last cymbal you listened to sounded like). The sound clips are very clear and are true to sound. I recently bought a few of the 2002 series cymbals (15'' sound edge hi hat, 22'' ride, 18'' and 20 '' medium crashes) and they sound great. Good luck and enjoy those sound clips!James

Thanks James. I listened to samples on the site and narrowed it down to the following.

2002 17" thin crash

2002 19" crash

2002 20" ride

2002 15" sound edge

Based on the sound samples, all of these cymbals compliment each other very well. At least I hope they do because I already found all of the above used and all for a total of $550.00 shipped. To late to turn back now. I already recieved the hats and am waiting for the rest.

If anyone wants to go to the Paiste site and listen to the cymbals I have chosen and then give me feed back (good or bad is fine) that would be cool.

SN's need to be consecutive to be a matched pair.....however, look again at the 4 and 9 and make sure they aren't the same digit. If they were, the numbers would be consecutive. I'm thinking they are actually. The other possibility is that the it was stamped late Friday before a Swiss holiday.:D

I took a second look and it is a 4 and a 9. Maybe thats why they were only $95.00 but I bought them to play and not resale so I still think it was a good deal. They sound really good. You had a good idea and I was hoping you were wright but the differences in the two numbers are noticable.
