Looking for my drums Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

Hello everyone. I am brand new to this wonderful forum.

In 1975 I was gigging with my then brand new Gretsch green satin flame drums at a catering hall called Town and Campus in Union, NJ. I was 16 years old. So I could see my girl friend sooner, I decided to leave the drums in a storage closet overnight. Yup, they were stolen. They were in fiber cases (my teacher, Russ Moy, insisted that I get the best cases available at the time) and the cymbals and stands were also robbed. After months of depression I proceeded to try to find my drums at every catering hall and joint that I could get to. I also diligently checked all the news papers. No Luck. I am at the point where I would love to buy them back with no questions asked. I'm sure the current owner has no idea they were stolen. I do not have the serial numbers but I have one of the toms (13") that I did not bring to the gig. The model # is-4416, serial # is 118383. The sizes are 5 1/2 chrome over brass snare w/lightning throw, 14" rack tom, 22" bass drum and 16" floor tom. I had replaced the rail mount on the bass drum with a center post double tom mount holder which used the clip style mounting system. I did this when I added the second tom. So the center hole in the bass drum is probably messy and I'm pretty sure I drilled through where the badge was. The only other identifying characteristic on the set was that I tried to fill the two holes from the rail mount on the bass drum with JB Weld epoxy and it ran down the side of the drum, but I'm sure they have been recovered by now.

I realize this is a long shot but you never know.

Any input would be appreciated.

Welcome indeed!

I would suggest you look for the kit you describe, only a fine vintage version. You will have a much better chance of filling that void. The odds of finding your actual drums are infinitesimal at best. Actually finding them may land you on the cover of MD!

Good luck if you choose to continue hunting, but I would start looking for replacements as you remember them.
