Look! I've foound a Fibes snare!

Hi!

I've found a Fibes snare in my church. There is noone who claims it, and I have no clue where it comes from. It's just a single snare. Since we have no use for it, we have decided to sell it. Our problem is that we have no clue of what this thing is worth. I've understood that this snare should be from the 70's and that Fibes was a custom-drums company.

A question about a drums worth may not be the most intresting question, and also a quite hard one, but I myself have seriously no clue. My goal when selling it (I live in Sweden) is to disscus a price that is not all to low, but also not to high, wich would just be stupid.

I've got a couple of close up pictures on my website to view.

I dont know if the snare-wires (dont know what they are calld in english) is orginal. This is the best picture I got of it.

this is a picture from the side. Note the hole to the left. Thats the ring holding the headskin. http://hem.passagen.se/ceat/IMG_7365.JPG

Check also http://hem.passagen.se/ceat/IMG_7366.JPG

The snare mechanism is (called "stainer" in english?) replaced with a new, but it is a fine work and the new mechanism works great.

Snare mechanism replacement from the inside.

The other side of the snare (seems to be orginal to me)

The emblem, with serial number.

Inside of the shell. There is a marking, wich I don't know where it comes from. Is it industrial (what does it say then?) or a personal marking?

The shell. I found this when I took off the headskin to take a photo of the number I found on the inside of the shell. This lookes quite odd (I have never studied any old drum shell before), and I just wonder if this is a sign of a (ugly) handmade work by the producers, or if someone has done.. Well, what is done to this shell??? I don't know how it looks on the snare-skin side of the shell. I had'nt enought time to watch. But is this orginal work or seriously stupid (?) damage???

I hope these pictures can be helpful in giving me help with this. It would be fun to get some knowledge of this drum. I got more instrested the more I wrote this mail! But my main issue is the approximate value of a drum like this.

Thanks!

Honestly the best way to get an idea of the value if the intention is to sell it is to, er, sell it.

Stick it on ebay UK or similar (not Tradera, the useless Swedish arm of ebay) with detailed photos and a decent description and make it available for the world. You'll soon find out what people are prepared to pay - but make it soon otherwise you run into the pre-Xmas "I don't have any money" syndrome which is just about to hit.

Truthfully, if you can find a Swedish buyer, you'll probably get more out of them than anyone else because our prices here on vintage stuff are stupidly high but it also can take a long time because there's not many of them.

Might also be worth touching bases locally with some of the gents at the Vintage Drums Sweden blog http://vintagedrummersweden.blogspot.com/ - can't remember there being a Fibes fanatic there but it wouldn't surprise me.

If you can get to Stockholm, check out the wonderfully stocked vintage store Hellstone's on S?der - from memory he has one for sale. Take that price, subtract 25% and you're close.

Cheers,

David

Thanks for the tip!

I got a bit curious about the shell and wonder if this is a damage or if it is made by the manufacter? Might be a stupid question, but I really dont know anything about old drums. And as someone said: "If you never ask, you'll never know!"
