Lime green anyone?

From tnsquint

Man what a great finish. That seems to be closer to a green shade of sea foam green than lime green but I am sure that changes based on the color of white light. Regardless, that is a killer finish.

Yes the lighting has alot to do with it. Its supposed to be lime green so thats what I call it. One of those you have to see in person. Thanks for the nice words!

To combine this thread with the Nashville Slingerland thread, I thought I would post this:

Greg's kit is a monster and that finish looks great, even for us old guys. I am sure your MIJ kit is not that caliber of kit by any means, but your finish is absolutely top shelf, especially considering you accomplished that on a luan surface. Good to go for boys and girls of any age as far as I am concerned.

Awesome color and paint job! Although, I was expecting to see a brighter shade of green when you said "lime" green.

tnsquint, that is a nice looking kit in the video. My MIJ drums are not great at all, they were cheep and a perfect canidate to experiment with that color. When I do land quality drums I have to think pretty hard weather or not to change colors or wraps. Like my Fibes kit, you guys would kill me if I would have painted them Lime green,lol.. Good to know that you think the color is good for all ages.

Thanks!

JC, my bet is that you dressed up the bearing edges a bit so they probably sound pretty good. Put some air cushion feet on that floor tom and you will be amazed at how much better it sounds.

I drove 15 miles to our Guitar Center to get rubber feet and they did not have them in stock. Have to try again.

Thanks for the tip, I wil look into that.

JC absolutely great finish. Here's the question/questions.

What type of paint is it. Oil base, laquer?

Did you add sparkle to your mix or was it premixed in the paint?

Did you sand between coats?

Wipe down with thinner/tack cloth?

Clear coat?

When done with paint did you polish?

See alot of ?'s, sorry but.....

I really love that color, sparkle and glassy finish.

SPRAY GUN/SHOP/Experience= really good

I use product from here, www.paintwithpearl.com

It is mixed into a clear finish (post cat lacquer from M.L, Campbell) called Level sealer. The level sealer is used on porus woods like oak and mahogany to fill in the grain making a smooth base for your finish coat. I applied six coats of the colored level sealer to each shell, sanding in between with a 320 grit sanding sponge. Last coat was a clear gloss pre cat to make it shine. I am using a gravity feed hvlp gun from ( Jaguar SLP) from C.A.Technologies. If you have any more questions please ask them. And, no polising needed, just a steady hand.
