left handed vintage kits - Valued more or less? (rail on the opposite side of kick)

Loading...

hello guys,

was just wondering your thoughts on left handed vintage kits.

i do buy/sell/trade and have a deal pending on an original lefty setup kit, where the rail is mounted on the right side of the bass drum.

has anyone here re-sold left handed vintage setups?

would u say they are more or less desirable then a right handed set up, or its about the same, just do a snare stand for the tom to make it a righty setup?

let me know your thoughts/opinions/experiences

thanks

Just my opinion... 'cause I've not had a lefty set to restore/refurb and sell before. But sometimes items that even though scarce and rare, don't command as much as what the "normal" market would be. In other words, since back in the day people were almost forced to be "right" handed there were so few lefty sets that there just wasn't/isn't a demand for them.

I don't know, just my thoughts.

Anyway... has anybody ever given it much thought about how Ringo would have been as a drummer had he had a lefty set? Our drummer at our home church is a lefty and has a lefty set, which makes it impossible for me to fill in for him on his drums... but he is really good but has told me it's impossible for him to play the other way (so he knows how I feel!).

if i get the kit i have the option to re drill 2 holes for the mount to set up in righty position... or just keep it original and use a snare stand to mount the tom... thoughts on devaluing vs demand?

I always try to leave mounts/holes where they are on vintage American kits. If you're going to play this one, I'd use a snare stand for the tom and NOT drill any extra holes. Extra holes usually seem to devalue a drum...

Again, just my opinion,

To make a vintage drum a lefty:

Step 1. Turn the bass drum around.

Step 2. Spin the badge 180 degrees.

Step 3. Profit....no, exchange batter and resonant heads if desired.

Left handed vintage drumset.

ok then the spurs are backwards and the tom sits way back... any other bright ideas?

Well and succinctly said!

Here's my solution.

I'm pretty sure that they can be moved.

A novel approach to using the rail mount! A beautiful set of drums... and those cymbals probably sound fantastic! Permit me, though, to say that the high hat stand overpowers the rest of the hardware!
