Leedy snare drum....

Loading...

I picked this drum up several years ago, and I'm looking for more information on it. I see a drum that looks identical to it on the "snare drum" vintage drum identification page, however there is no description by it. Actually, that looks like it might be my photo of my drum on the page... At any rate, identification of model, year, and color, which I believe might be Knobby Gold, would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Wow! What a great snare drum...and in really nice condition! I don't have much knowledge on these wonderful drums that far back, but I know there are quite a few members here that will see your post and offer up their thoughts and what you have.

I have the same size and model drum in Nickel. I believe it is a post "Multi-model" (late 20's- early 30's?), but I am not totally sure. The "Black Elite" model was this same drum, but black and engraved I think. Sorry to be so wishy-washy, but I am away from my Leedy books....

I think the color might be "Colonial Gold Finish"

although I never seen one yet but might be a good chance that is what you have.

The strainer is called a "Speed way" I believe and was introduced in 1924.

The elites were from 1920-29 and the 4 screw lugs were more to the end of the 20's.

so sometime between 1924-1929.

Beautiful drum

Added pictures from Leedy book, hope that helps.

I used to have one of same vintage. For the life of me it took days to see that "Leedy" inscription on the rim. Cool drum but I traded it in. Just couldn't keep it in tune. 100 years old almost ...

Wouldn't all of the drums mentioned be under "The Leedy Professional?" I have the same drum, just Ni over brass, and thought it was a 30's professional model.

Oh yea. I have a black elite and it seems to be the same drum but with fancy pants.

Thanks to all who replied. I guess this is why there is no description next to my drum on the snare drum identification page.

Does anyone have a color photo of the "Colonial Gold" finish? Perhaps I have Knobby Gold hoops and a Colonial Gold shell.

Production between 1924-29 possibly even early 30's...

I have not played the drum much, but now I think I'll throw some new heads on it and see how it sounds.

Thanks again.

I just googled "Leedy colonial gold finish" and there were some pictures there.

I included one for you , it looks like a 1926-27 from Mike Curotto collection.

Not many of these out there. Hard as nails finish that won't chip supposedly like the White Elites.
