Certainly also, take a magnet to the entire snare drum and see what it will stick to, I bet only the tension rods and possibly not even them!! that will tell you it isn't steel parts any where.

I will do that. Good suggestion. Thanks.

your welcome, keep us posted on the out come!!

I sure will. I have 2 other projects I was slowly working on (removing red and blue paint from a Green 18" Vistalite floor tom; and wrapping a 24" Pearl MX bass in birdseye veneer to play with my Pearl Custom Z toms).

The Reliance snare is quickly getting moved up in the list of projects to complete first. I can't wait to play it. I'm think I'll go with a coated single ply over a hazy for it and string on some new snare wires. I've never played the old style snare wires and the ones on the drum now are likely original. Is it worth buying new old stock silk snares like the originals or if I should go new school. I am totally open to going old school, but have never heard those silk snares strands in person. Thoughts?

WelcomeWelcome! This is a sweet kit! I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. As for the Chinese tom tom holder....I'm still not sure what it is, haha. Hopefully, someone can shed some light on the matter.

Congrats on a great find!

ConvertedLudwigPLayer - The 10” cymbal could likely be the cymbal that was attached to the bass drum hoop and was struck by that bass pedal cymbal striker. If so, it might be “stock” for that set. That sure looks like a very complete early trap set. Very Nice!!!

Great snare! If you are going to play it out, you probably want to use modern wires. Puresound 12 strand customs would be great. Leedy also made a "black elite" black nickel engraved drum that was their black beauty.

Hi Atomicmorganic,

Thank for the info.

I have every intention to play the drum. I think I will go with the puresound snares as those have been suggested a couple of times to me. It would be interesting to hear the original style snare wires.

I have seen pictures of the Black Elite. I bet it sounds killer, but have never had the chance to play one of those or the BB's myself. I've heard a few COB's though.

From the info I am being told, my shell is a little thinner than the BB, but I have no idea how much thicker the BB would be.

Any idea how mine would stack up to the Black Elite or Black Beauty sound wise?

Definitely china tom tom holder, the bottom edge of the tom rests on the two little tangs, the side rests up against the half moon shape and one of the rings on the side of the tom hooks over a hook that is adjustable up or down screwed into the flat part of the holder, sometimes this part is missing but easy to replace.
