Thanks to my eagle eyed friend friend Gary, I managed to scoop this leedy heater for my ยด35 snare. Does anyone know if it should have a sleeve fitted around the element?

Wow, I never heard of such a thing. Was it used to stabilize the shell and keep it in tune when there are temperature variations?

The purpose of the heater was to warm the calf heads and prevent them from absorbing moisture from the atmosphere which in turn caused them to lose tension. You'll sometimes see some old drums with a light bulb mounted inside which did the same thing.
