Leedy Drums

From leedybdp

The "last guy" to own the set did not install the Tama harware. I was that last owner. I bought these great drums from a man who had this drum set in his recording studio in Colorado. The only change that I made to se set was to install the gold sparkle inlays to the empty inlay channels of the hoops. I loved that little set that I used with a matching Rogers Luxor snare drum. I traded the drums to Rockin Robin for another great drum set. I was prepared to hate the Tama tom mount, but ended up loving the way it works. Congrats for giving those drums a good home.

Wow, it really is a small world, I believe it was sitting there for awhile. Do you happen to know if that's the original finish and who painted the interior?

Loved your Leedy kit and couldn't stop myself posting a photo of my old 1920s NOB Leedy Reliance snare. I got it about 4 months ago and it was pretty grubby but cleaned up nicely. The shell is a little dented in places but hey, its 90 years old.

I'd never heard of Leedy until I read an interview with Simon Philips around 1980/81 in which he said he played a Leedy snare. Always wanted one thereafter and this is my first! Sounds lovely.

1920s 14"x5" Ludwig Super Sensitive Dual Snare
1957 6 1/2" x15" Slingerland WMP Concert King
1938 8"x15" Leedy Broadway Standard
1947-53 14x6.5" NOB Ludwig & Ludwig Universal
...plus a bunch of mismatched Slingerlands that collectively make a pleasing noise.

I think that the Piano Black paint job was professionally done not too many years ago before I acquired the drum set. I don't know if the drums were originally wrapped, painted, or natural wood. If I take on another drum rescue project, instead of rewrapping them, I will seek out an auto painter to replicate the great finish on your Leedy drums. I have no idea about the interior painting. Maybe it was done when the exterior was painted?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
