Leaving a message for the next person doing a restore:

Much like a message in a bottle.

I'm going to start putting what I know about the drums I work on inside the lug. Need to sort what fabric can write on. Then just wrap around the felt. Since there are at least 5 lugs what else would you include? If I've started a thread here on a drum would provide the link. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Creighton

Nothing special here but I like them.

I have added labels to the inside of several drums I have worked on. Just my name, date, and what I did to the drum. I do it because some of my restorations come out so well, that a less scrupulous individual could misrepresent them as 'NOS' or 'Mint.' Sure, the labels could be removed and a prospective buyer 'could be' deceived, but short of physically/permanently marking the drum in some way, (etching a rim for example,) a label is the best, least invasive way to go. I'm all for identifying 'restored' drums for the sake of keeping it honest, or as honest as we can.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Interesting point. Sometimes, if a particular restore goes really well, I'll sign or put my initials on the inside of each shell, along with the year.

Maybe include or dangle inside the drum a small booklet .....??

The next owner could remove and peruse the details outlined inside the lugs without disassembling the drum....?

Glenn,

That would be especially funny if the adjacent lug was actually missing!

I am totally on board with "marking" restored drums.

I was considering date stamping my restored 64 clubdate kit as FEB 9 1964

Because of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and that it was a Sunday which would likely not be a work day.

Also thinking of getting a business card with an email on it I could bolt under the tom, floortom, and spur brackets.

If it's a ludwig you could always put a label under clear coat.

I like Drums...
