Least enjoyed part of a restoration?

For me it is getting rims cleaned up. Easy enough just don't like doing it. Close second, dropped bits that roll 15'. Cup washers very good at heading off into the sunset.

Nothing special here but I like them.

Re attaching old lugs properly.. with always the risk of stripping out their internal thread...

Tender hooks type of job...

Cheers

In the beginning I enjoyed the whole process. but now many years later I don't. It's just a necessary process to the end now.

So true, VM2000. Finding a better way to do a task is the only enjoyment left.

DEFINITELY removing old wrap. specially luddies with the wrap in the lap joint.

Dirty, tedious, ya gotta use really bad chems, and the stress of getting the wrap off without gouging the shell or rippin a ply out.

Cleaning the lug and mount attachment screws. Them little buggers slip outta my paws all the time while getting the gunk outta the threads. Creightion I'm with you on misc things falling and rolling away. I've spent more time searching for things than the task itself. Even with loss prevention measures the stray washer or lug cup always eludes me.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Removing old wrap and cleaning off the old adhesive is number 1 & 2. Number 3 PITA job is stripping paint.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Stripping paint from over wraps! Creighton's "dropped bits that roll 15'" made me laugh though because I work on a second floor balcony a lot. The other least enjoyed bit is selling kits afterwards :(

In case of having to use putty: Sanding.

Otherwise: removing wrap/glue.

Oh yeah! I developed a theory [superstition] about this back when I fixed Super8 cameras [lots of tiny screws] - if you see it fall and hit the floor, it won't go far, but if not, off into the sunset indeed. I've had bits roll away and bounce up onto the top of quarter round molding, behind a table, only to be found a month later....

For drums, removing paint, usually black, from the inside and outside of shells. Couple times I've had screws that won't thread back into the hole I just took em out of a few minutes ago...
