Latest "Players" restoration

I have finished my Fullerton Rogers project. I wanted a 22" kit I could gig with. I started with 3 toms and then found a 22" kick (a miracle in Australia) they were all stripped. I found all the parts, but I am using modern hardware to gig with (uses the Swivomatic tom mount) The original hardware is easily restored, which I will do for a resale. The kit sounds fantastic and I have a wonderful original snare to boot.

Thanks

Very nice work! I love the color of the gold sparkle. Most I have seen are quite orange. Where did you order the wrap from?

Thanks for the comments. With the larger holes, this is my method (I'm not a craftsman!)

1. I usually first make the hole round, with a hole saw.

2. I have a thick piece of maple - like a 4 x 2, which I slice a piece off by cutting into it horizontally (like slicing cheese) then vertically. Then I countersink screw holes into it; and screw that onto a piece of 4 x 2 pine, and use a plane to thin it down. So the pine supports the maple piece and takes the damage from the plane. This piece of maple will make quite a few plugs.

3. I improvise a large plug cutter, by replacing the bit in a hole saw with a bolt and nut. The bolt can then go into a drill press chuck.

4. I cut a plug and then use a Dremel to size the plug and the hole until it's a tight fit. Use the Dremel again to thin the plug down once it's glued in, then sand by hand.

You can do all this with dowel, but I prefer maple for tom shells with large holes - not sure why, just do. For smaller holes a good quality plug cutter with maple is fine. I use regular dowel for screw holes.

TS - I agree with all of the above, great job bringing those back to life! BTW, I love the Kites! Great rendition of, Josie. Also the snare drum comparison video is second to none. Very well done indeed.

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks very much John.

PS: The wrap came from Sam Barnard. It is a bit orange, but has the 'wow' factor, that's for sure.
