I picked up a Gretsch bass drum that needed a lot of work. Too much, really. I traded it for an old Ludwig, 26" from the 30s. Here it is with the wrap peeling off:

I opted out of the imperial lugs because they weren't nickel plated. The trade included single tension hardware. The rest of my set is single tension. It made sense.

Here it is after cleaning it up. I installed a toggle switch near the top of the drum for the light. Some day I'll paint the front head. I've got a design worked out, but not enough time to do it right.

It isn't perfect, but that's ok. Nothing stays "perfect" for long.

Nice job! It would be cool to see it with the rest of the kit and the light on.

Thank you!

It's a keeper. We're in the middle of packing for a move, so there is no room to set up the rest of the set. Maybe in a few weeks when things are more organized I can take some pictures.

great job on that. I doesn't look like its been freshly done and I mean that as a compliment. it looks perfect. that would has some very nice grain to it. ive got some single tension stuff myself and dig it.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have a background in lamp design and metal finishing. It comes in handy when cleaning up old drums. Here is what I have planned for the front head.

Some context:

I grew up in Peoria, IL. I did not serve in the armed forces. Most of my family has served, though, and I have the utmost respect for those who defend our country.

That is a super nice drum.

Good job on the resto.

At first I was skeptical about taking the Imperial lugs off but, it looks great.

I do like single point lugs better. :D

Awesome!

What are the dimensions?

I would love to hear it.

Macrow - Thanks. It's a 26x14. I won't have time to mess with it for a while. We are in the middle of planning a move and I'm working crazy hours. The only time I'm home is when the kids are sleeping.
