Latest MIJ Find-4 orphans are a family!

4 "orphans", all but the snare match exactly! 12/16/20/14 SD. All 4 came as a shell pack. The rack and bass are not branded, the floor tom is "Werco" and the snare is a Del Ray. A lot of Del Ray Snares I have seen have very interesting and unusual wraps; this one is no exception. The drums are in great shape overall. There is some "buckling" of the wrap around the bass drum lugs and cymbal bracket, but nothing too bad.

The snare, rack and bass are three ply with natural interiors and re-rings and the floor is thicker with a gray painted interior and no re-rings. All drums are mismatched. The rack has "club date" style lugs, the floor tom has the normal "Slingerland Copy" lugs and the bass drum has HUGE lugs. The previous owner replaced the rail mount with a really generic looking bracket and tom arm (you can see the old rail mount holes with screws in them). I have a rail mount that should fit those holes. I also have an extra tom bracket that is with that rail mount, so it can be original. The good thing is the replacement tom bracket only has two holes and the mod was done using the existing top hole and one below it. When I put the original bracket back on, the bracket will cover the extra hole! I'll fill in the bass drum bracket holes and I actually have some extra gold glitter wrap lying around to patch it up. It will be under the rail mount anyway.

Anyway, I like the "uniqueness" all the mismatched lugs have. Also, check out that cymbal holder! Is that top section a homemade job? Either way, it's kind of cool, but would not trust anything larger than an 8" splash on it! I also have never seen floor tom leg brackets with two key operated screws on them. I also have never had a kit with the unique curved spurs on them. Finally, the bass drum hoops are metal, but there is a rubber or plastic inlay that eliminates the "groove" that is in metal hoops. I think it looks cool and have never seen that before. Is that a homemade job as well?

If anyone is interested in the snare, let me know. It is six lugs, has stick saver hoops and has the original bottom head and snares. Strainer and butt also appear original and there are no extra holes. 3 ply with re-rings. Wrap has a few "wrinkles" in it but otherwise in good shape.

Thanks,

V

As you may already know, the FT is made by Star, 1968 or later. I believe the BD and tom are made by Pearl. The tom's muffler knob is an older Pearl. I believe the double screw cymbal holder mount is Pearl as well, and Pearl was known to make some drums with thicker/larger hardware (think Crown and Olympian). I predict you will find a buyer for your Del Ray snare - be sure to post in the FS section.

I would recommend you keep an eye out for a FT that matches (shell) so it will have the same sound, despite the possibility they all sound 'good'. Thin vs thick MIJ shells sound different. In time you will find a matching snare as well - just keep an eye out for it.

Fun kit!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
