Late 70s Pearl F-418 "Art Blakey" outfit in Silver Satin

Ka-powey. Catalogue shot is from 1977 or so (incorrectly dated 1974-ish on VDG)

This bad guy came from Sweden via ebay. Still looking for a period correct Vari-Set cymbal boom arm. Also missing one BD hoop inlay strip and 8 correct T-rods. White logo heads and felt strips en route.

Wow. Looks great! (and I'm jealous!)

These are the FG shells, right? Sure look to be...

I like your style! There's more to drum collecting than Gretsch BOP kits..

Never play it the same way once.

Your bass drum looks like wood/fg from that distance. I have a wood f/g kit and it looks very similar..Im obviously wrong, but I thought the f/g shells were light brown in color?...georgeous set you have!!

Hit like you mean it!!

Ok, got the parts it needed save for one BD hoop inlay 1" wide, silver satin (or metallic white).

Got proper coated Ambassadors and felt strips, almost bone stock now. Tuning them high for bop - a little confounded by the BD still, toms are little rippers.

What about the BD is confounding you?

Wanted: Pearl President floor tom in Golden Grain wrap and rack tom in Tiger Eye (root beer) wrap.

I am going for a traditional setup with it - no riser, ambassadors and felt strips. As such, I'm a little out of my element. My previous experiences with 18" BDs were more about making them sound bigger and deeper. Going for the old school sound has eluded me somewhat. I'll find it.
