Ludwig used the small knob mufflers on the Standard line as well around that same time.
I can understand wanting a particular drum, in this case a late KB 402 using a knob muffler but would suggest that an early B/O badged one is going to be the same exact drum (other than the badge of course). They didn't alter the way they made the drums just because a new badge/logo was introduced. Not suggesting it isn't a worthy pursuit (believe me, I want some very particular things myself) but simply that from a sound standpoint there wouldn't be any difference...and if you don't use the muffler (I never do) then that works backwards as well with the drums with the BB setup. If you do use the muffler then I will grant you that the function of the knob muffler and the BB variety are different. The BB is pretty much an on/off affair (and sometimes can turn itself "off") while the knob version does allow for much more subtle adjustment and tends to stay where you set it.
Sounds like the problem is you're looking for a drum that didn't sell in huge numbers and in a production configuration that was only made for a brief time before one detail (the badge) was changed. Still I'd guess they must have made a fair number, even in that relatively brief period of time, so there are bound to be some out there.
