Late 60's Apollo Drums

Loading...

Hey Folks,

I've never posted here so be gentle. I'm trying to get rid of a 60's era Apollo kit. It's a 3pc with a 20" bass drum. No snare, just a kick, rack tom, and floor tom. I had to modify the kick (only slightly) by installing Gibraltar Legs. When I purchased the kit the original legs just wouldn't cut it. The toms have some of the tension rods replaced with DW Tru Pitch rods. A long story I don't need to get into here. I think the color is a black mother of pearl wrap...black oyster, etc.

Anyways, I'm not sure what to ask for the kit, but I do know I'd rather someone on this forum got it than someone who wouldn't appreciate it.

I also have a 60's era slingerland snare that I'll put some pictures up for.

Make realistic offers and they're yours. Obviously, purchaser would pay shipping.

I'll post the photos soon!!!!

Welcome! First off, you may want to post them in the for sale section in order to get it kicked off. As far as value...well, these old MIJ kits don't command a huge ransom. Most sell in the 100-300 range, with completeness dictating, then color. You have a fairly desirable wrap, but no matching snare. Are they 20-12-14? A few pix would be nice.

Thanks for the responses folks. I know for certain the kick is a 20, floor tom a 16, and I think the rack is a 13. I suppose I could add that the heads are Coated Emperors on top and Clear Ambassadors on the bottom. Kick has a Powerstroke 3 batter that I rigged to make it like those gadgety Remo heads that came out a couple of years back with velcro attachments and such...if that makes sense.

And I will post in the for sale section, just figured I'd try you guys first.

Thanks again.

Here are some photos, not the greatest but it's all I have at the moment ....

For me, the addition of those modern spurs completely ruins the value of the drum. They just look totally out of place and spoil the 60s/70s vibe.

But I understand that some folks want the security of big spurs.

I agree with Retrosonic on the legs. Also, you seem to have an incomplete kit. The rail on your bass is a the larger rail and normally was on the kits that were 5 pieces, including the snare.
