Actually the sound is what I am working on! I'm trying to get them to be a little lower and 'thuddy-er' but the stick chopper hoops aren't really allowing for it. By the time I get the wrinkles out and an even tone they are pretty bright sounding.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I had been running Aquarian American Vintage on my early 60's (mahogany/poplar/mahogany) Slingerland BOP kit. Always sounded too "papery". Switched to their standard coated single ply heads and BINGO! Very nice low, thick, almost calf like sound.
