I have an opportunity to buy a nice Tama superstar kit from the late 70's/early 80's in mahogany finish. The only thing is the finish is scratched here and there as is the case with most used drums. Wraps are easier to deal with when it comes to this problem - just re-wrap it. But not so with these lacquer finishes since it isn't a wrap at all.

Is there a proper way to go about fixing scratches and chips with these lacquer finishes? Any advice before I do something stupid like going to home depot and ruining the whole thing with some floor polish? : )

Thanks very much.
