LA Camco's

This is a kit I have have had for a while and finally got around to rehabbing it. It had been owned since the late 70's by a drummer who drummed for Steve Allen the original Tonight Show host. He was Steve's drummer in the last part of Steve's career and these have traveled the world backing up Steve. It is a complete matching kit with only the snare having extra holes due to the Slingerland throw-off, but that was the only thing available for the repair while out on the road somewhere overseas when the original broke.

It sounds absolutely awesome and is a 12,13,16,20 with 14 snare. They cleaned up very well and have minimal nicks etc. He took exceptional care of them considering how much they were gigged. I had some of the mounting hardware re-chromed but other than that nothing else needed replacing or repair.

One of the nicer LA kits I have ever had or seen, and a cool history to go with it.

Just beautiful Myron. Those drums are like a piece of art. I've generally preferred wraps over natural finishes but my tastes are changing and this kit just pushed me over the edge. You're such an enabler Myron! Excellent job as usual.

Man I love the history as much as I love the drums! Steve Allen was multi-talented. One of those talents was that he was a serious jazz pianist. His repertoir included as many standards/classics as it did his own original material. I can't begin to imagine how much music has come out of that drum kit. Great kit, great find. A little piece of 'show-biz' history!

Too many great drums to list here!

That's as clean a vintage kit as I've ever seen. Nice one. How's that flat-based hi-hat with the spurs? I've got one without and it's a little rocky.

Actually works quite well compared to the other flat base Camco stands I have. Both the snare stand and the hi-hat stand were Camco NOS I found at the Chicago Drum Show this year.

Absolutely beautiful! Reminds me of the Camco kit available to me in one of the practice rooms when I attended San Diego State back in the 70's.
