LA Camco snare in AC Blue

Hi Folks,

This beauty made it to Belgium just before the weekend.

Thank you Aaron (elmoonlightdrummer) for taking such good care of here.

She didn't come cheap but since I owe a set of these minus the snare, it had to be done. Below a couple of pictures showing its great condition but also some flaws and the typical discoloration of the Camco Alice Cooper lacquers.

She's a perfect match to the set. It's pretty hard to catch the true color on camera but these pictures are giving a good idea of the real finish. As you can see, it tends more to a turquoise-blue.

Funny thing is that the drum appears to be a "lefty". (strainer left from badge) It's also missing the typical Camco key-holder. I'm not sure if the wood 5" LA snares are supposed to have them but my 5" LA Camco COB definitely has one.

I doubt if the top and bottom hoops are original. They look very different to the ones on the COB from the same period.

Before I forget,.... it sounds fantastic !!!!

Very nice! I must admit I was shocked when I saw how much that snare went for. But when you need it sometimes it's worth it to spend the extra money to complete a kit. Congrats on a completing your kit and in a rare color too!

Indeed Steve,

Almost a once in a life time opportunity.

I guess this guy got lucky finding a desperate bloke in Belgium/Europe to complete his set.

Isn't that what a lot of those Ebay sellers are hoping for,...?

What do you think of the left strainer and the missing key-holder?

From your experience,... any intake on that,...???

Well, I guess we've all learned, and known, that vintage drum collecting can be a pricey hobby/passion!

And, yes, you really had to get this to complete your kit! When you can, post pictures of the snare with the rest of the kit!

Congrats on this rare find!

From stedi

Some more pics,...

Stedi, I don't think there is a concrete answer to the keyholder question on the L.A. era snare drums. Mine doesn't have a key holder, nor did the one I had that was in A.C. White. The L.A era Catalog shows a total of 9 snare drums from all angles and I didn't see any with the keyholder. Maybe your L.A. era COB Snare drum is a left over Chanute era shell? Or maybe just the COB snare drums came with the key holder. There are not enough examples to know for sure, one way or the other.
