Krupa's finest work.....

Here it is....Sing, Sing, Sing from a film made in 1937 featuring Gene on drums with the Benny Goodman Orchestra. Gene was great I just wish I could've met him. An originator of many things, the modern tom-tom, the modern drumset, the modern drum solo......way ahead of his time.....

Ludwig-dude;Well done, this is the stuff, right here. I've seen it a million times. i have the dvd, and NEVER does it get old or boring, and brother not only did the might Krupa bring all you mentioned, he made us the trap set drummer "musicians", we were considered, filler before gene came along. Gene Krupa is our les paul of the drum world, if you understand my les paul reference, Gene was an innovator,in the use of the dynamics of the trap set kit and it's new place as a soloing instrument, and also in equipment innovation's, we owe him awe!!!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I have seen it before, and that clip is still great. A local band in Detroit (they were signed to Kid Rock's label) The Howling Diablos, kept the love alive with a song called "Go, Gene. Go". Gene Krupa was a great artist. Thank you.

The blurb I read:

"Gene wanted a particularly deep tom sound." Gene was said to have helped develop the floor tom, at least the first 18 or 20" ft.

Floor toms, double headed TUNEABLE toms, the way the set is arranged....pretty much all of it. Even the types and names of cymbals with much help from the Ziljian family.....all Gene.....

Gene-ious! Yes Sir

I greatly admire his music and his contributions to drumming. So did Rich, Bonham and many, many more.

Gene was the man.

That's a old favorite of mine too. Great clip thanks. I saw Krupa in the mid 70's when he was 75 years old and playing with Lionel Hampton in a quartet. They played at my old High School of all places. He was amazing! They played all the standards and Sing Sing Sing was one of them. Hampton played vibes and they double drummed a bit as well. Fantastic show.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

I think your memory may have faded a bit over the years.......Krupa died in 1973 of a heart attack, he was 64.
