Kit i.d. Help

From Kenwood

I would not say it was the norm to have a kit with a 22" bass and two 13" tomsI have run into two 12" drums on a 20" bass beforeBut no, most 5 pc Hoshino builds were !2" 13" on the mounted drumsas an option when ordering I suppose anything is possible what sort of mounting system? If it is a rail mount then the two 13's might be a pain to position them to play comfortably For anything more than display, my kit works much better with only one tom on the rail mount

Yes, it's a rail mount. I just got done cleaning it and have attached a few pics, along with a pic of one of the rack toms that I just cleaned. Like you, my plan is to just utilize one rack tom on the rail mount.

John that is very kind of you Thanks pal

Tom Yes they are almost exactly the same as the Crown drums

save for the some of the Crown kits, having the fairly rare 8 lug toms

and 10 lug bass drums where these tigers have standard 6 lug toms and 8 lug bass drums

OldSchool to your continued good luck

they are cleaning up GREAT!!

Kenwood: Thanks for the positive feedback. I've attached a pic of my cleaning to date. I've still got another rack tom to do. Quick question, if I may: When I picked up the kit, it was missing 8 bass drum tension rods. That didn't concern me, since I knew that I had some extra rods at the house. However, when I attempted to install them on the bass drum shell, I discovered that they didn't fit properly. Fortunately, I did find a quantity of 3 Slingerland BD rods from the '70s that fit fine. I'm wondering if you might know where I could obtain some original rods that might fit or whether you might be aware of some other replacement rods that would fit, like the Slingerlands? Thanks again for your time!

Hello OldSchool

Coincidentally there is no closer match to these particular original Hoshino made t rods then the seventies Slingerland T rods they look pretty much identical to one another

I do not think the threads are alike and if they do indeed ..thread right up?

Either the swivels have been changed to Slingerland on the incomplete side of the drum?

or they are the actual original Hoshino stuff you need and not Slingerlands?

I would try to carefully see if one of those known Slingerland rods fit on the completed side ...if they do?

then perhaps all the swivels have been changed to Slingerland

I really do not think Hoshino used a standard thread but I could not say for absolute certain ether

as to availability John was correct when he mentioned the Hoshino stuff being sometimes tough to find

Finding a whole distressed Hoshino bass drum may be easier than the 8 rods alone

Hoshino also used a T rod very similar to the Star made faucet handle Slingerland clones

But those would not look right and are just as hard to find

on top of that they are a lot more brittle in their old age than the Star versions

and you would need all 16

It may be easier to find five more player-grade Slingerlands to close in that side

Also and this answers a question of yours from above ...since Hoshino obviously cloned the seventies Slingerland T rods

I would fix both our kits as having been produced sometime in the early seventies not the sixties

My pleasure OldSchool ..Good luck

I found this photo on another thread

showing another Hoshino made kit

in the same black and gold tiger sparkle this time badged "Olympian"

these drums are fitted with the other of the two styles used most often on Hoshino builds

and perhaps are the more widely used style of the two

I run into a lot more Hoshino stuff with this style than the lug style used on our kits

As can be noted..the perfect matching snare drum in this example

has the same B&B inspired lugs as my slightly mis-matched snare drum pictured earlier
