'King Star' drumkit on German ebay

Hello,

There's a new old brand name from 1969 appearing: 'King Star - Drums since 1969'. Curious!

The lugs are similar (not identical, to the Royal Star lugs, see last pic of my Star lug), the tom holder system is completely different from Star's. Maybe another Hoshino brand?

Merry Xmas,

Ralf

NB: btw, it's an auction here in Germany, seller asking EUR 3,900 for this 'professional drumset, being played by someone in the 70s on gigs with German wellknown sin gers' of that time).

I don't know, Ralf, those have all the look o an early TAMA kit.

Ralf, i think that is a re-wrapped set of Tama's Imperialstar's from the 80's.Why the mounted toms are power size toms.the lugs look like Tama's I.S. lugs from the 80's when these came out..Badge looks to be a made up one..The tom mounts looks to be a after market Pearl 7/8" tube mount so do the mounts on the toms..On the bass drum the legs are wrong to be Tama they too maybe a after market made ones,so do the T-rods and claws...Mikey

Ohh - I see. So you think this is a 'faked' drumset with a selfmade badge ...?

Nevertheless still curious!

The lugs on the "King Star" kit seems to lack the ridge down the middle of the prominent part on Imperialstar/Superstar lugs.

So, when the lugs are not Tama, and tomholders, legmounts and so on are obviously NOT Tama - what points to the kit being Tama?

The deep shells points to the late 80´s, not the 70´s, though.

I haven´t seen Hoshinos in this configuration in the flesh - the closest is the `81 Arias seen on http://www.drumarchive.com/aria/, but they are the Beavertail copies, just like the Hoshinos on http://www.drumarchive.com/Hoshino/.........they all have the same ridge, so are not the same as the "King Star".....what happened thereafter, I don´t know.

The price is ridiculous, provenance or not!

Regards

Jon

I've noticed the 'flat' top of the lugs, but I thought Mikey was right when dating it to early Tama lugs. My limited knowledge ends with the Star era, so I'm not an expert on Tama. So if you say that even the lugs are NOT Tama, this complete thing must be a 'NoNamer' in total.

And yeep - the price comes from a dreamer. Guess, ebay will put him down on the ground again, when even the next suggests (EUR 2,000 ... EUR 1,000) won't bring him a single reaction. Finally it'll come down to a starting at EUR 1 auction, ending at perhaps EUR 150 (well, due to the cymbals: perhaps EUR 500). CryBaby :D

My :2Cents:

Ralf, my friend!

There is a pair of King Star toms on ebay listed by the seller, franksmusicbox. Very interesting. Thought you might find this intriguing.
