Keystone badge turns silver after cleaning?

Loading...

I'm looking at a drum for sale and the seller has posted pics of the badge that looks to be of a normal colored keystone badge. Then has a pic after he cleaned it.

Question: is there any way you can "over clean" or use some type of abrasive that will leave a keystone badge silver color?

Thanks for any info!

Ludwig/WFL has actually had some keystone badges that were silver in appearance. Any pics of the one in question?

Hello! what caught my eye was the low serial number.

I have a pre serial marcher and the badge grommet is brown.

I chatted with the seller and he says the "silver" pic was due to the flash.

Anything about the badge and/or how it sits against the drum look fishy to you?

HmmI sent the link from Ebay.

Maybe not allowed on the forum?

You might try a search;

1963 Ludwig 1760 serial number 10x14 marching snare. COB rims.

I have used a variety of polishes on badges and in a lot of cases the dark grommet turns back to a brass color. I looked at the link from Mark, and I agree with the seller that the flash made it look silvery. I have turned badges to shiny almost new/silver look with Mothers mag Polish. Here's an example of one I had to move the camera around without a flash to get a true picture because it looked silver also.

No Guru - I just love collecting & learning about vintage drums!

20's Leedy Black Elite
51 Leedy & Ludwig Knob Tension
58 WFL Buddy Rich Classic Blue Sparkle
63 Walberg & Auge Sea Blue Agave Green Pearl
66 Leedy Shelly Manne Blue Agate Pearl

Thanks for the info! Beautiful drum!

Seller says he found 3 marchers being sold by the Jr. High school he where to years ago, says he played them then! He bought all 3, one missing a badge.

Says the other serial number on the other drum is 0268
