I just bought a Kent chrome 6 lug snare drum 5 or 6x14 with black and gold badge for $40. Good deal? What would the shell be made of? Thanks. Tom.

Hi Tom - We'll need to see some pics to tell you more. Also, I'm not aware of a Kent drum with a black & gold badge, but when it comes to Kent's... You never know.

Pics please!!

I don't have the drum here yet, but will post a pic when it comes. I think it is a 5" deep. Triple flanged hoops. The lugs look kinda like Rogers beavertails. The badge looks just like the black and silver one except it is black and brass looking. Do you think it might be a brass shell?

Actually, yeah, any working snare for $40 is a good deal....it DOES sound like a Japanese kent, though, based on the lug style. it is likely steel, if so...

The US made Kent lugs (some of which were installed on import shells) are pretty simple looking. No ridges or grooves like you see on a Rogers or Ludwig lug.

Shell is likely chrome over steel as I'm pretty sure Kent never made a brass shelled snare drum. My Blue and Gold badge single tension Kent metal snare is steel.

And yes... $40.00 for a 6 lug snare in playable condition is a decent price.

Pearl did knock out a Rogers-esque beavertail snare lug in the '60's. It sounds like those.

Something is not right here. I remember that picture. That drum head is very familiar. Is this kit in another post? If you go see this kit, be careful. Keep your eyes open.
