Keeping the Downbeat and Selling the Rockers

Loading...

Well, I get to keep 3 sets, so I’ve decided to keep the Blue Oyster Ludwig Downbeat (my dad and I talked to another board member last night and he’s going to help us restore it!), my Ludwig Vistalite set and my Premier set. I have to sell my Ludwig Rockers set. I have some questions about it, and I hope you all can help me out.

First, it’s white, or at least it was at one time. It’s kind of yellowish now, but when I take the hoops off, you can see the bright white is used to be. Can these be cleaned or is it better to sell them the way it is?

Second, it’s a weird set. It has a 22” bass drum, a 10” tom, an 8” tom and a 16” floor tom. What would be a good price for the set or is it not really a set and I should sell it a piece at a time? It has the black and white badges but the floor tom doesn't have a serial number, the other ones do. Is that common?

Thanks again for the help! You all have been great!

Hi Julia,

Actually...3 of the 4 Downbeat drums are Oyster Black...the 13 is Oyster Blue....

Hi there. Well, I'd sell the Rockers all together. It's just too much hassle selling it piece by piece. I'd offer for $300-400. That seems like a reasonable price. If I recall correct these are the US-made Rockers, correct? I'd sell locally on Craigslist too. Ebay and shipping is just too much work for a kit like that. Congrats on the Downbeats. Many here including me are envious :)

Hi Julia,

Good choice keeping the Premier and Downbeat kits. Premiers are great drums, and the Downbeats go without saying. I would think you could ask $500 for the Rockers which gives you a little wiggleroom to go down some. Don't go below $350 though.

Good luck.

Julia - $350 - $450 sounds 'right' to me for the Rockers. You made an excellent choice keeping the downbeat kit and the Premiers.

Too many great drums to list here!

Another thought I had was that you may want to find some stands, any pedal, a throne and some el-cheapo cymbals to go with that kit. By cheap, I mean the cheapest things that are round and make noise when you hit them, too.

As someone else said, the sizes point to a busted up monster kit, and your target buyer is probably a young kid who wants a drum set??? (or the guy who has the other half of that monster kit....lol)

If this is the case, then his mom/dad will most likely want to do some one-stop shopping, not want to waste another precious second of their time on it, and get it over with all at once. They will not have a clue as to what is there or missing and will probably ask if little Jimmy can play it once he gets it home. I would emphasize in your ad, it is a much better quality beginners set than the junker they will get out of a box, for the same price.

The guys who buy/sell all the time will have better information, but this is what I was thinking.
